The free trial and how you pay

The 7-day free trial, the card collected at sign-up, and the $0.00 due today — what happens on day 7, what each billing status in Settings means, and where to change a card, a plan or a billing interval.

The free trial and how you pay

Every plan starts the same way: seven days of the whole app, the payment method on file,
and $0.00 due today. This guide is the mechanics of that — what is collected, what is
charged on day 7, and where each number lives in the app. The prices themselves and what
each plan includes are in Plans, Free Trial and Billing.

What the trial is

Seven days of the plan you picked — Starter, Pro or Enterprise — with everything on that
plan switched on. Nothing is held back until you pay: the trial is the product, not a
crippled demo.

The seven days come from the subscription itself, which is why the countdown in Settings
matches the date on the invoice to the day.

The payment method is collected at sign-up

Sign-up asks for a card, and charges $0.00 today. The method is stored by
Stripe — Clavoz never sees or keeps the number.

That is the only method the checkout offers, and that is deliberate — it can be
charged again automatically on day 7. A one-off method that cannot recur is how a "free
trial" turns into a failed charge and a locked workspace on a Tuesday morning.

Read it back in the app's own words, at the top of the sign-up form: "7-day free trial. A
card is required at sign-up and is charged $0.00 today. Cancel
anytime before day 7 to avoid charges — after that the subscription renews automatically at
the price for the plan and interval you choose."

Where the trial stands inside the app

Open Settings → Billing & Plan. The card shows:

On the card What it tells you
Current plan Starter, Pro or Enterprise (capitalised)
The status chip Trialing, Active, Past due or Canceled
N days remaining in your free trial The countdown, with First billing date beneath it
Manage Subscription & Invoices The button into the Stripe portal
Nothing is charged during the trial… The standing reminder, with the card-update route

The countdown appears only while the status really is trialing — a cancelled trial keeps
its old date, and "0 days remaining" beside a past-due banner would be two true things
telling one confusing story.

Day 7: what actually happens

The subscription renews automatically at the plan price for the interval you chose —
monthly, or the annual price if you picked yearly. Stripe charges the card on file,
emails an invoice, and the status chip moves from Trialing to Active.

If you subscribed with the annual interval, that is the one charge for the year. Yearly
billing is priced at two months free.

If the day-7 charge fails

Nothing is switched off on the first failure. The status becomes Past due, a banner
appears in the app, and the workspace owner gets an email naming the amount, the currency
and the number of days in the grace window — 7 days — with a link to pay. Updating the
method restores Active immediately.

The full set of symptoms and fixes is in
Payment and Billing Problems.

Changing a card, the plan or the interval

  • A card: Settings → Billing & Plan → Manage Subscription &
    Invoices
. That opens the Stripe customer portal, where the payment methods live.
Changing the method there does not restart the trial or change the price.
  • Plan or interval: Upgrade or change billing interval on the same card. Changing a
plan does not restart a trial you have already used.
  • Waiting for day 7 instead: you do not have to. Updating the method now simply means
    the day-7 charge works.

Every payment produces an invoice from Stripe, emailed to the address on the account and
also listed in the portal. Cancelling is covered separately in
Cancelling, Closing Your Workspace and Your Data.

If you close the checkout window

Abandoning the Stripe checkout does not half-create anything. The workspace is marked
Pending payment, which is the app's way of saying "a checkout was started and not
finished", and the next time you open the app it sends you to the plans page to finish.
Nothing you typed is lost. Backing out of Stripe deliberately shows the gentle notice
"Checkout canceled — your trial is still waiting. No problem, pick a plan whenever you're
ready."

Getting paid by your own clients is a different thing

This page is about paying Clavoz. What your own clients pay you — the deposit and
each milestone draw — is separate, and Clavoz never takes or holds that money. Set your card
link, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle and wire details once in Settings → Getting paid and they
appear on the proposal and the milestone page. See
Getting paid by clients — deposits, draws and financing.
